Firemen Visit

Today we were very lucky to have Tony and John from the Clutha Valley Volunteer Fire Service visit us at school. They came as part of our inquiry topic 'Why does the world need heroes?'
We have looked at superheroes, school heroes, home heroes, and are now beginning to look at some heroes in our community.
This morning we made firemen hats and learnt a song about being a fireman. This is how it goes ... (to the tune of i'm a little teapot)

I am a fireman
dressed in red
With my fire hat
on my head
I can drive the fire truck
fight fires, too
And make it safe
for me and you!

This afternoon they arrived in a real fire engine! They were very impressed with our hats and our singing. We met the firemen inside where we learnt about how firemen help in our community. We also got to look at the special clothing they have to wear, and we got to ask them questions that we had.

Then we got to go outside and look at the fire engine! We saw the hoses and ladders, and some more of their safety gear.

We even got to hear the siren! It was very loud!

Amber the firewomen came to visit us too!

We really enjoyed our visit from these Clutha Valley heroes!
