Life Education Trust Visit

Last week we were lucky to have the Life Education Bus visit us at school. Kanuka went to the mobile classroom twice to visit Pip and Harold where we learnt about healthy eating. The focus of this visit was to eat a VARIETY of food to give us ENERGY. We looked at the food pyramid and talked about foods we should eat ALOT, SOME, and a LITTLE amount of.
We then helped Harold write a shopping list for his friend Jacko's party and designed a healthy lunch box.
We packed a lot of learning into our two sessions and still managed to sing, dance, AND watch a 3D movie. We can't wait for Harold to visit us again next year!

Excited and ready to get inside the mobile classroom.
On the phone to Harold helping him write a healthy shopping list.
Look at the food pyramid we made ...
... and the healthy lunch box!

Mitch's Basketball Visit

On Monday we started the term with a visit from Mitch the Sports Activator. Mitch came to teach us basketball skills.

Bouncing the ball at waist height. What great control!
Making the ball go around our bodies

The Kanuka children had to bounce their ball as low as they could, while keeping their heads up and yelling out the colour of Mitch's cone.
What a talented class!

Playing an invasion game. Look after your own ball while trying to knock out others.

To finish we got to shoot some hoops! The hoop is VERY tall for us!

Gymnastics

During the final week of term 2 we did gymnastics as part of our physical education unit. We split both the Kowhai and Kanuka class children into three groups where we focussed on ...
Jumping and landing
- Balance
- Roly Polys.
We had a lot of fun during gymnastics and got to use some new equipment including a spring board, wedge mat, and the balance beam.
Check out our photos of us learning how to roly poly ...

Tarquin could even stand up after doing a roly poly.
Well done Tarquin!

What were the important things to remember when doing a roly poly?

Who can remember the important things to remember when jumping and landing?

What did we have to do to keep our balance along the balance beam?

Last day of term 2

Silly Miss Grant went home for the holidays and forgot her computer charger! Apologies for not getting these photos up earlier.

On the last day of school we had a Friday Funday! It started with a shared lunch in the multi-purpose room and then we were split into groups throughout the school and we all completed a bp challenge. We had to make clothing out of newspaper!

The kanuka children all worked very well in their teams! Some of them even got to be models.

Well done to Savana and Jake's teams who made the top 5!! And a special congratulations to Savana's team who won!

After the winners were announced we had a special end of term assembly to farewell Miss Sinnamon and Miss Young! We are going to miss seeing these lovely teachers around the school! Good luck for your new adventures! Miss Grant will miss working with you both.

Leadership Games

Yesterday we talked about heroes and that heroes are also leaders!
Firefighters and police officers are heroes and leaders in our community because ...

- they save people
- they rescue people
- they are responsible
- they are kind
- they are caring
- they are brave
- they are helpful

We talked about how we could be leaders at school and at home.
Then we did some team challenges where we had to work together and help others.
Here are some photos of us playing 'human knots'...

The first time we did this it was quite hard but once we learnt to listen, work together and help others it was really easy! We have some great leaders in the Kanuka class!
