Dance

Last term we learnt a dance with Kayleigh our dance teacher. We have continued to practice our dance this term to perform at our end of year performance. Here is a sneak preview of the wonderful dancers in Kanuka. One video has us dancing to music and the other is us counting the beat of our dance moves. Remember to keep practicing these dances at home Kanuka.

Writing

On Monday Heather got to visit Mrs Ward with her writing book for her fantastic description about a lake. Here is it ...

Around in the countryside is a beautiful hidden lake. No one has ever been to it before. Even though it is far away from any city or town the grass is still short around it. There is a big circle of trees around it. The pale blue lake has fish, turtles and crocs in it! Would you like to come one day? Remember there are crocodiles!

Today Gemma got to visit Mrs Ward as well! Gemma has been learning how to re-craft her story. This means when she has finished writing she has to read over it and think of ways that she can make her story even better. Yesterday Gemma re-crafted her story about space. The words in green are all the words Gemma added into her story when re-crafting. Well done Gemma!

In space it is completely dark. There are glittering dancing stars everywhere. No one else has been up there before because it is far far away. In space it is completely silent. It is really sparkling and shiny because of the glittering moon and sparkling sun and planets.

These stories do a fantastic job of painting a picture of the setting in the readers head!
 - Well done girls!

Here are some examples of the descriptions we have been writing. It was very hard just to choose a few! Watch this space Kanuka has some very talented writers!

I can feel the little leaves tickling in my toes. It makes me jiggle and wiggle and I can't stop. I can hear dog's going woof, woof, woof!! and owl that goes toot, toot, toot! There is a fire in the middle of it. It is pitch black. The leaves are very crunchy and broken. I can not stop shivering.

Space is sometimes very light and sometimes really dark. People think that their are rainbow coloured aliens in space, when there are no aliens in space. On the ground on earth when it's dark the stars look tincy, tiny but they are ginormous. Planet Venus is the brightest planet in space. Scientists predict that Venus is as bright as the sun. Planet Neptune has two beautiful coloured rings around it.

My bedroom is the biggest bedroom in the house. There's one door in my bedroom and if the door is shut DON'T COME IN!

Far, far away in a countryside is a beautiful forest named Pommywood. In my forest there are chocolate trees and pavalova mountains. There are lolly animals there too. There is skunks that fart out lolly poop. I love my countryside a lot. There are little baby dinosaurs too. If you ever want to come ... watch out for the dinosaurs because they are cheeky.

In the forest there is a werwolf and it goes wooooo. It is as dark as the power going off. You can hear strange noises. There is nothing to eat. A werwolf can see you.

Space is a place where there are aliens and bright twinkling stars. If you see an alien quickly hide behind the awesome rocket ship. In space the sun is really really hot but ... there is no air. There is thousands of bright twinkling stars.

My room looks like dynamite went off. There's clothes, cars and trucks on the floor. Lot's of stuff is under my bed. There is a toy chest with stuffed toys in it, boxes are falling out. My bed isn't made, my sisters bed isn't made either. Clothes are falling out of my drawers. I've got two posters on the wall, one is adventure time and one is yellow. I have lots of books. Don't go in there or you will hurt yourself.

The trees are green like grass. All the sand is burning hot. The water is blue. The palm trees are waving. The sand is as soft as wet clay. There is treasure waiting to be found.

Wheels Week

This week our class is very excited as it is WHEELS WEEK!

On Monday we had Constable Rochelle at school testing our helmets and teaching us some road safety rules for staying safe on our bikes. We are all enjoying being able to bike and scooter around at morning tea and interval.

All set after our helmet safety check ... and ready to ride!

Practicing our hand signals for stopping and turning. We even had to practice riding and looking over our shoulder. Constable Rochelle had pictures of different vehicles behind us and while we were riding we had to call out what they were.
